Project Management I define "project management"
as the management of a project so that it is constructed
and completed within the given budget, delivered within
the stipulated time or earlier and with the standard of
quality as expected by the Client. To manage a project,
one must have the necessary experience and technical
knowledge. For example, a project manager must have
constructed a school or building before if he wants to
manage the construction of another school properly. He
should also have a good knowledge of the Conditions of
Contract between the Client and the Contractor and
pleasant personality to get along with people for the
smooth implementation of the project. |
|
|
Monitoring a project: With the advent of Internet, not many
of those who are involved in construction such as developers,
architects, consultants and contractors realize that they can
significantly save cost and time by utilizing the
Internet facilities to manage and monitor their projects and
run their organizations effectively.
|
|
|
A significant amount of expenses in telephone calls,
outstation travels, accommodation and time can be minimized or
saved through effective use of the facilities available in the
Internet for project management. |

Project Management by
Internet It is
basically managing
and monitoring the project by using a website to
contain all the information about the project, such as the
parties involved, contract details, progress photographs, the
Gantt Chart to show the actual progress against the expected
progress of works, latest payment status, progress report and
percentage of completion, such that if anyone is to open the
website, he can immediately know the status of the
project. |
|
|
Communication is done by email
or through instant messaging, where the boss can "chat"
with his site representative or "video conferencing" using a
webcam to discuss on any issues pertaining to the
project. |
|
|
|
|
|
If there are more than one project site to monitor, the
GIS (Geographical Information System) can be incorporated into
the web-site so that the location of all the sites can be
mapped out. With just a click of the mouse, a person can zoom
into a particular project site to get a closer and detailed
information. There is no need to physically visit the site
to see the physical progress of works because the progress
photos and/or videos are available at the website for him
to view for himself. If necessary, a camera can be placed at each
strategic location at the site
to record the progress of work there in real time. |
